A Big Win for Upshur County Voters in Voting Accessibility

While working a voter registration booth earlier this month, I had a short chat with Upshur County resident and Gilmer Mirror favorite, Phillip Williams.  Williams mentioned a petition had been filed, after the appropriate number of signatures were obtained, thereby extending voting hours in Upshur County.

William’s information, matching his story in Gilmer Mirror’s Saturday, October 11th issue, was exciting and welcoming news to me. I recalled responding in disbelief that the matter to ensure accessibility to vote had not been a priority to either party much earlier.

Without the extension, my husband and several Upshur friends would not be able to vote.

As Williams highlighted, early voting hours will now be from October 20-24: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. October 27-31: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the eastern end of the second floor of the Upshur County Courthouse.

Congratulations Upshur County!
