Sen. Cruz on Border Security and Israeli-Palestinian Relations with Sean Hannity

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, today called into the Sean Hannity Radio Show to discuss issues surrounding border security and recent events between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

On the humanitarian crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border as a result of President Obama’s lawlessness:

“The President is right that it’s a humanitarian crisis, but it is a crisis of his own creation. This is the direct consequence of President Obama’s lawlessness… We are seeing little boys and little girls coming across the border alone with hardened criminals because of the President’s lawlessness. Here are some basic facts that our friends in the mainstream media won’t share with you:

In 2011, just three years ago, there were roughly 6,000 unaccompanied children caught trying to cross the border. Then in 2012, just a few months before the election, the President unilaterally and lawlessly granted amnesty to some 800,000 people who were here illegally who had come as children. As a direct result, we saw the numbers skyrocket, so this year there are expected to be 90,000 unaccompanied children apprehended. That’s up from 6,000 just three years ago.Next year there are expected to be roughly 150,000, and all of this is because President Obama has openly, brazenly refused to enforce the law.

“These children will not stop coming, and not stop being subjected to this horrific physical violence and sexual violence, unless and until this Administration begins enforcing our laws. As long as people believe they get amnesty, they will keep coming, and that is the opposite of a humane policy.

“As you noted, Jonathan Turley who was a liberal constitutional law professor who voted for Barack Obama in 2008 has testified to Congress that President Obama has become the embodiment of the imperial presidency; that Barack Obama has become the president that Richard Nixon always wanted to be.”

On the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the contrast between recent murders of both Israeli and Palestinian youth:

“I actually think the response to those two events illustrates the difference. The left, much of the media likes to draw moral equivalency. When that Palestinian boy was murdered, the Israeli government, Prime Minister Netanyahu, brought the full force of the Israeli Justice Department. They apprehended the people who carried out that murder and they’re going to prosecute them, because the Israeli government is going to enforce the law. The difference is Hamas and the Palestinian government are celebrating these kidnappings and murders. It is different because Hamas is effectively a state sponsor of terrorism.”

[On Sunday, Sen. Cruz penned an op-ed for the Jerusalem Post titled, “Hamas has the blood of three young boys on its hands.” On June 26, he also spoke on the Senate floorcalling for an end to recognition or legitimization of the Hamas terrorist organization.]
